Job Overview
The Head of Legal Department is responsible for the overall management and direction of the legal practice within ALF. This role requires a seasoned legal professional with a strong focus on strategic business development and client relationship management. The Head of Legal will oversee legal operations, provide strategic legal counsel, and lead the legal team in developing and implementing strategies to enhance the firm's market position and drive revenue growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the legal department's strategy and objectives, aligning with the firm's overall business goals and contributing to revenue growth.
- Identify new business opportunities, develop targeted marketing plans, and build strong relationships with potential clients.
- Lead the legal team in providing exceptional client service and fostering long-term client relationships.
- Collaborate with the tax and accounting departments to develop integrated service offerings and cross-sell opportunities.
- Oversee legal research and analysis to support business development initiatives and provide strategic legal counsel.
- Manage and supervise the legal team, including assigning work, providing guidance, and developing staff capabilities with a focus on business development and client service.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external legal counsel, industry associations, and professional networks.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and events to enhance the firm's visibility and generate new business.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the legal department's contribution to revenue growth and client satisfaction.
Team´s Responsibility
- Drafting legal opinions and consultations on various areas of law, including but not limited to commercial and corporate, customs, employment and immigration, OHADA, risk management & compliance;
- Assistance and representation in various meetings with third parties;
- Due diligence and investigations on service providers and agents;
- Preparing, drafting and reviewing contracts, letters and other documents with legal ramifications;
- Telephone and face-to-face legal assistance;
- Updates about new laws and regulations that may affect the company business operations;
- Assisting with the review and implementation of internal procedures and standards;
- Assisting with the review and implementation of internal procedures, policies, guidelines and other documents including, but not limited to a cash payment procedure, record retention guideline, temporary importation regime guideline;
- Managing disputes and litigation, including reports with recommended provisions and likelihood of success for every ongoing matter;
- Any other legal matters for which assistance is required;
- Provision of hydrocarbons policies for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea;
- the provision of regulatory compliance for all hydrocarbon products and derivatives and Assistance before labour authorities.
Document Processing Services:
* Compiling documentation and responding to various requests for information (RFIs) seeking information about laws, regulations and public domain information of interest in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea,
* Compiling document and information required for each visa and immigration application;
a. Submit visa and immigration applications;
b. Follow up on the progression of each visa & immigration application;
c. Managing all ongoing applications;
d. Weekly and monthly report on the status of each application;
e. Share entry formalities workflows in relation to relevant requirements around any pandemic or epidemy.
* Curtesy meeting with relevant Ministries officials to ensure that preliminary formalities have been completed;
* Coordinate with GLOTECH MARINE team to confirm that preparation for arrival has been completed;
* Assistance at the airport upon arrival if need be: o Briefing passengers on relevant entry protocols in relation to airport formalities and/or any other pandemic or epidemy;
* Overseeing national security officials’ collection, review and return of the passengers ‘passports; and o
* Assisting with any other immigration formalities.
* Submit a weekly and monthly report to companies for all work covered.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD) with excellent academic credentials.
- Proven experience in a senior legal role with a strong focus on business development and client relationship management.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate law, contract law, and litigation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
